texas, my texas

Merit and I will be heading to Abilene Wednesday morning! I am beyond excited. I haven't been home since Christmas, which is officially the longest I have ever gone, in my entire life, without being home. We'll be flying, which also makes me excited...it will take 4 hours to get from Nashville to Abilene as opposed to the normal 14 or so spent driving. But I am also a little nervous about this little venture...  I am sure we'll be fine, but I have all kinds of visions of how it is going to go all sorts of wrong. Any tips and advice for flying by yourself with a two-month-old??

Nurse her during take off and landing...worked for me.

She sure is pretty!

Take extra clothes for you and for her on the plane. My baby got sick on me right after we checked our bags...and I had to buy a HORRIBLE airport T to wear to meet some of Matt's family in California!... I can almost bet she'll sleep the whole way! Have fun going home! :)

- bring a front carrier (ex. baby bjorn) or sling so that you can have your hands free to carry luggage, purse, diaper bag, etc.

- you can bring your stroller and they will keep in a safe place for you during the ride. then they will have it for you as soon as you exit the plane.

- get ready for everyone to make a comment as they load/unload the plane. : )

I read on another mom's blog that holding styrofoam cups over the baby's ears would ease the pain/pressure during takeoff and landing. I have no idea if that works or not, but thought I'd share. Please take a picture though if you try it because that would be hilarious. Good luck!!!!

i was going to say the same things everyone else already wrote. but i'll reiterate them anyway.
1) wear sweet merit in a frontpack. the baby bjorn saved our life going to and from miami.
2) nurse or give a bottle to help her swallow during takeoff.
3) give her gum... JUST KIDDING!
4) wear slip on shoes or flip flops so you don't have to get in and out of shoelaces while holding your sweet girl
5) if you didn't get her a ticket it never hurts to ask if the flight is full when you check in. we brought adelaide's carseat/carrier and were planning to have them check it under the plane since we didn't buy her a ticket. however she only sat in my lap on one of the flights though because on the other ones they had room for her in a seat.
6) have SO much fun!!!

oh man..she's gonna do fine. i was so very nervous when we flew with kanyon because i was afraid if he cried people would kill me in their minds. everyone was SOOO nice. one time when he did get a tiny bit fussy i was saying "I'M SO SORRY" to this man i was sitting so very close to and he was so nice and saying how lucky he was to sit by a baby. Not sure why i told you that because it won't really help, but people will be nice to you. I highly suggest the front carrier and flip flops!!! Life saver!!!!! i didn't even take my stroller. oh man, i am excited for you.

hi there, i cannot remember how i stumbled upon your blog, but i have been checking it for a few weeks now and think you have a beautiful little family. also, your nursery is TOO CUTE. i adore the name merit, but it's too close to my name for me to have a child named merit, so it's my "dream name." we flew with our baby boy at 5 months and i nursed him going up and landing and he did GREAT! best of luck... and nice to "meet" you! -meredith, from austin

I just flew home to Indiana with Ella last weekend and she is now a year old which was MUCH harder than flying with her when she was 6 weeks old. Believe me.....she will do just fine as long as she is sucking on something when you take off and land. Good luck!!
